"The artist...is also a born adventurer. His explorations, unlike those of a tourist, are rewarded by the discovery of beauty spots unmentioned in the guide books, and with tireless curiosity and an exceptional proneness to wonderment, he will come upon objects of remarkable interest overlooked or even shunned by more disciplined observers."

Augustus John, R.A.

Peregrine Falcon

Peregrine Falcon.
Reduction Linocut (6 Colours). 180mm x 120mm.
Edition of 5.

Finally got the print finished and in time to send a couple to Holmfirth Artweek, of which more below.

Holmfirth Art Week

Today was the sending in day for Holmfirth Artweek, so the last couple of days have been spent in last minute preparations. Both my exhibits in the main exhibition had to be framed and a selection of around 50 unframed prints and drawings mounted and arranged in the print browsers.

The work was delivered this afternoon ready to be set up for the opening next Sunday. The event runs until the following Saturday. So if you are in the area please go along and enjoy the exhibition. There is work from a wide range of artists and craftspeople from paintings, prints and sculpture to jewelery and ceramics. Full details can be found at http://www.holmfirthartweek.net/

Malham Cove. Reduction Linocut.

Unframed prints and drawings, including original illustrations drawn for the Huddersfield Bird Club and also illustrations drawn a number of years ago for a Richard Jefferies Society booklet.

Almost Finished

Only the final dark to go now.

Wednesday 23 June 2010

Coming Along Nicely

Fourth colour down only two more to go. I should get this finished in time for the Holmfirth Artweek taking in day on Sunday.

Tuesday 22 June 2010

Third Colour

Well that worked better than expected.. The cutting would have been easier if I'd worked bigger though.

Monday 21 June 2010

Colour 2

Colour 2 and the image is starting to appear.
So far so good. Now for the fiddly bit.

Sunday 20 June 2010

Developing an Idea

This might not work. The size (180mm x 120mm) is a bit small for what promises to be some fiddly cutting. In 5 more colours we will find out.

Something Simpler

Peregrine Falcon.
Linocut. 195mm x 130mm.
Edition of 12.

After printing ten colours on the last linocut, I decided on something much more simple for the next one. So here it is; one colour!

Actually based on drawings made of a bird at Malham Cove.

Sunday 6 June 2010

Finally finished

Colour nine, a dark green went down relatively problem free, leaving only one more to go. A final dark to pull the whole image together.

Sunlight and Shadow-Malham Cove.
10 colour reduction linocut. 237mm x 360mm.
Edition of 6.

Quite pleased with this, although I'm still not sure about the stream. Hopefully the selection committee for the Leeds Open will also like it. Ten colours is a bit much, I had intended doing it in seven. My next print will be a bit more simpler.
