"The artist...is also a born adventurer. His explorations, unlike those of a tourist, are rewarded by the discovery of beauty spots unmentioned in the guide books, and with tireless curiosity and an exceptional proneness to wonderment, he will come upon objects of remarkable interest overlooked or even shunned by more disciplined observers."

A trip to the bank this afternoon turned up this opportunity to draw Goldfinches in the Co-op car park.

This is absolutely beautiful, Stuart. You have captured all of the charm of the goldfinches perfectly.

Great work Stuart, the left one in particular is excellent. I'm inspired! Oh I've just bought 'Butterfly Season 1984' by David Measures. An excellent book of his field work - more inspiration! I must get started again...

Thanks to you both for your comments.
Stewart have you seen David Measures first book titled 'Bright Wings of Summer'. A great book full of paintings but also with quite a lot of text on butterfly behaviour. I got my copy about 20 years ago from a secondhand bookshop in Newcastle of all places.

Yes Stuart I borrowed it a while back. I really like his work, all that scribbled biro and finger paint! Its so immediate and fresh....
