Gordale Scar. 7 colour reduction lino cut, hand printed with a baren. 270mm x 170mm.Gordale Scar in the Yorkshire Dales, not far from the village of Malham. The path goes round the corner behind the foreground cliff. At this point the crags really close in and the path ends at a waterfall where the stream from the valley above bursts into the gorge. A rough scramble up the side of the waterfall allows the walker to climb up out of the gorge onto the moor above. From here there is excellent walking across to Malham Tarn or to the great cliff of Malham Cove.

Linocut really works well for limestone cliffs doesn't it?
I never got to Gordale when I lived down there, although I always meant to.
How beautiful. The dark green and black certainly bring it all to life.

Thank you both for your comments. Yes Keith I like the way I can use the Linocut to bring out the 'blocky' structure of the limestone. I've tried to develop that part of it more in this print than I did in the Kilnsey Crag one. I think its worked to a certain degree but as with everything in art there is always room for improvement. The 'great masterpiece' is always the next one!
