"The artist...is also a born adventurer. His explorations, unlike those of a tourist, are rewarded by the discovery of beauty spots unmentioned in the guide books, and with tireless curiosity and an exceptional proneness to wonderment, he will come upon objects of remarkable interest overlooked or even shunned by more disciplined observers."

St George's Minster, Doncaster

Four prints from one block. As well as the black and white print shown in the previous post I've printed another three editions from the one block

St George's Minster - Doncaster
5 Colour Reduction Linocut.
270mm x 180mm.
Edition of 10

St Georges Minster ii
2 Colour Reduction Linocut.
270mm x 180mm
Edition of 5

St George's Minster iii
2 Colour Reduction Linocut.
270mm x 180mm
Edition of 5.

The last two prints were taken from the block after cutting for the fourth and fifth colours. In some ways I prefer the brown and black version to the full colour print. I'm not too sure that it works as well in blue though.

St Georges Minster-Colour 4

Colour 4 on the new linocut is a darker version of the first pale brown colour. After printing this I thought that there was enough detail for a single colour print so I pulled an edition of black and white prints from the block.

St George's Minster-Doncaster
Single Colour Linocut. 270mm x 180mm
Edition of 9

I also printed a few in the dark brown colour to print as two colour prints with just a final dark to add.

Colours 2 and 3

Printed the second colour on the new linocut and then after clearing away the sky part of the block I printed a bright green across the lower half of the print.

Back to the bench

Happy New Year

A new year and a new print. After the excesses of the last two prints, both of which ran into many more colours than originally intended. This one will be strictly limited to just 5 colours. Although what it lacks in the number of colours it makes up for with some complicated cutting.

Colours 5 and 6

The next colours are two shades of orange brown. The main colours for the fungi caps.

Sunday, 2 December 2012

The next two colours to be printed are both varying shades of green. And this is as far as I have got. I have also been drawing out another print which I want to get finished before the Christmas break if possible. Then it will be into the new year with a new project.
