"The artist...is also a born adventurer. His explorations, unlike those of a tourist, are rewarded by the discovery of beauty spots unmentioned in the guide books, and with tireless curiosity and an exceptional proneness to wonderment, he will come upon objects of remarkable interest overlooked or even shunned by more disciplined observers."

Plodding On

Two more finished illustrations, both drawn in my usual pencil and ink wash.

Dipper.
Had fun with this although I'm not sure that the stream works in monochrome. Its hard to get the feeling of looking down through the ripples to the stream bed. I've painted watercolours like this and its easier to suggest the different planes of view using colour.

Ringed Plover
Just a straight forward portrait of the bird perched amongst the rocks on the edge of a moorland reservoir.

Thanks for comments - I am using black board - I've only just learned there is such a thing as white, which you can ink, and draw on also - which opens up a whole new set of possibilities. One step at a time!

I keep looking at yours for guidance.

Many thanks.

Hi Jennifer

Don't know what happened with the comments. Don't know why one comment got posted three times!
With regard to the scraperboard, I use white as it is a bit more versatile and you don't have to remove so much material if you want large areas of white. Both types have there advantages depending on how you want the finished piece to look. Using black will give an effect much more similar to a traditional woodengraving.
